DNA is often used to solve crimes. When a suspect is identified, a sample of that person’s DNA can be compared to evidence from the crime scene. The results of this comparison may help establish whether the suspect committed the crime or not. Laboratories will compare samples from the victim’s or suspect’s DNA profile to the recovered crime-scene DNA. By understanding this process students participating in the initiative were introduced to the world of forensic medicine and discussed real life cases.
