At this meeting, the managing director of the Health Service of Castilla La Mancha (SESCAM), Luis Carretero, explained that biotechnology is essential for innovation in national health systems. Professor Juan V. Esplugues, Professor of Pharmacology, University of Valencia, spoke about the revolution of biologic drugs, which are a major advance in the care of serious chronic diseases. In the area of food biotechnology, Soledad de Juan, director of the Antama Foundation, analyzed the situation faced by biotech crops in the EU and how the EU regulation is hindering progress.
