ASEBIO and the Platform for Biotechnology Markets, together with the collaboration of BIOVAL, IATA, Biovegen and FIAB, organised on October 3th an event on both the developments and potential biotechnological applications in the agri-food industry and the opportunities and barriers to these applications. The objective was to inform about the needs of the agri-food sector with a focus on the incorporation of innovation. The event consisted of two parts: a partnering activity (one-to-one meetings) which objective was to facilitate contacts between the agri-environment and biotechnology sector, creating business opportunities; and a conference program based on two themes: functional feeding (what it is, how it is regulated, how it is proved safe, its benefits and opportunities) and genome editing techniques (applicable regulation, barriers and opportunities).
