Biotechnologies cover a wide range of scientific research fields, from medicine to industrial process, to agriculture, that are able to deeply influence the citizens’s life quality. They also represent an industrial sector important for the European economy, as it provides for employment and growth. In this field patent is thus a fundamental tool to promote innovation in different sector and, if economically exploited, to provide the necessary funds to finance expensive experiments and researches. In the seminar we will analyze Italian and European patent filings data concerning  biotechnology outlining the last 10 years evolution. We will also deal with the economic exploitation of patents presenting the results of some incentives measures implemented by UIBM.
