Can the unpredictable be predicted? The lesson of Covid to face future pandemics and new diseases

Although the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic is not the only pandemic in our history, states around the world have proved unprepared to face the emergency.

What has what happened in the last period taught us? Will it be possible to predict other infections in the future? Will the new biotechnologies be able to produce rapid tests to detect new pathogens and diseases early on that we cannot currently diagnose quickly?

We will try to answer these and other questions by taking stock with Vittorio Sambri, Director of the Microbiology Operating Unit of the Single Laboratory of Pievesestina dell’AUSl Romagna, and Alessandra Scagliarini, professor of the Department of Specialized, Diagnostic and Experimental Medicine of the University of Bologna.
