Color characterizes reality. Color is a visual perception of a physical phenomenon and is generated by an electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum that, by striking the retina, generates a signal transmitted to the brain. Color changes can be manifestations of an alteration that develop at the macroscopic or microscopic level in the world around us. From the reddening of the skin when we feel embarrassed or angry, to the tan of the skin exposed to the sun’s rays, from the changes in the pigmentation of the leaves of the plants at the end of their life cycle, to the aging of the hair in old age: here some examples of biological change indexes that characterize living systems and organisms. The laboratory aims to examine these aspects in detail by presenting, in the form of a playful experience for primary school children, how color variations can be used to discover some chemical-physical changes occurring at a macro or microscopic level in biological systems and not, using easily reproducible experimental settings with commonly used objects.
