What is biotechnology and where can it be used? The answer isn’t clear to many adults, not to mention children. That’s why the Economic Information Office and the Network of Experts held a webinar for school children to explain the basics of biotech. Upper comprehensive and secondary schools all over Finland could follow the broadcast on the web. Prof. Teemu Teeri and researcher Pipsa Saharinen from the University of Helsinki showcased the benefits of modern biotechnology in plant breeding, food production and medicine. Discussions also included themes about the way genetic information affects future healthcare to name but one area.
