The UK is unique in Europe in terms of the amount of research and development that is funded by the public’s voluntary donations to medical research charities, such as the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The BIA, in collaboration with the Babraham Institute and Papworth Hospital, took display stands and interactive activities to a BHF charity store in Peterborough in order to celebrate this fact with the public. We highlighted the role of biotechnology in developing medical solutions (among many applications!). Children and adults alike learned about cardiovascular medical research, practised resuscitation technique, and took home European Biotech Week balloons.
